I always love how asshats describe things they know nothing about: “Dungeons & Dragons players create fictional characters and carry out their adventures with the help of complicated rules.”
I never played the pen & paper version, but I played the Gold Box games for many, many hours on my Commodore 64.
Fair’s fair, though, having played D&D, that’s a pretty accurate description. In its day it was a breakthrough, but the rules are terribly complicated, and too much time is spent doing mental arithmetic.
